The Book of Matthew 5 v- Two thru Twelve

2 (Jesus) began to teach them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. 6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Matthew 5:2-12, known as the Beatitudes, is a series of teachings by Jesus that form the opening of the Sermon on the Mount. These verses highlight the values of the Kingdom of Heaven, including humility, mercy, and peacemaking. While these verses do not explicitly reference the Eucharist, they are closely linked to the principles that the Eucharist symbolizes in Christian theology.

The Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion, is a sacrament commemorating the Last Supper, where Jesus shared bread and wine with His disciples, symbolizing His body and blood (Matthew 26:26-28). The Beatitudes and the Eucharist both underscore the core values of Christian life and faith.

For instance, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:3) aligns with the Eucharistic call for humility and recognition of our dependence on God's grace. Receiving the Eucharist is an act of acknowledging our spiritual poverty and need for Jesus' sacrifice.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied" (Matthew 5:6) directly correlates with the Eucharist, where believers come to the table of the Lord hungering for spiritual nourishment and righteousness. The act of taking Communion is a fulfillment of this hunger and thirst, as it is a means of grace and spiritual sustenance.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy" (Matthew 5:7) is reflected in the Eucharistic practice, which calls Christians to extend mercy and forgiveness to others as a reflection of the forgiveness they have received through Christ's sacrifice.

Lastly, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9) resonates with the peace and reconciliation that the Eucharist embodies. The sacrament is not only a means of grace but also a call for believers to live in peace with one another, reflecting the unity and peace that Jesus Christ brings.

In summary, while the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:2-12 do not directly mention the Eucharist, they encapsulate the attitudes and spirit that the Eucharist celebrates and fosters among believers. Amen.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. **Blessed Are You**

In a quiet place on a mountainside,

Jesus opened His mouth, His disciples beside.

With gentle voice, the Savior did say,

Blessings for those who walk in His way.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, humble and true,

For the kingdom of heaven belongs to you.

Blessed are those who mourn and weep,

In God's comfort, their souls He will keep.

Blessed are the meek, gentle and mild,

The earth is their inheritance, unsoiled and undefiled.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for right,

In God's fullness, they'll find their delight.

Blessed are the merciful, kind at heart,

For mercy to them, God will impart.

Blessed are the pure in heart, clear and bright,

They shall see God in His glorious light.

Blessed are the peacemakers, striving for calm,

They'll be called children of God, bearing His balm.

Blessed are those persecuted for righteousness' sake,

For heaven's kingdom, their suffering shall make.

Blessed are you when others revile,

And persecute you, defaming your style.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great,

In heaven, where love conquers hate.

Thus, Jesus spoke on that blessed day,

Teaching us all the heavenly way.

With hearts aligned to His holy creed,

In His Beatitudes, true blessings we'll heed. Amen.
