The Book of Isaiah 53 v- One thru Five

6 I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you knew what this meant, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned these innocent men. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”

Matthew 12:6-8 is a passage from the New Testament in which Jesus addresses the Pharisees who are accusing His disciples of breaking the Sabbath by plucking heads of grain to eat.

In this passage, Jesus is making a profound statement about His identity and mission. By claiming that "something greater than the temple is here," Jesus is asserting His own divine authority, suggesting that He is greater than the most sacred institution in Jewish life—the temple itself. This is a radical and bold declaration, positioning Jesus as central to God's plan in a way that surpasses traditional Jewish structures.

The reference to "mercy, not sacrifice" comes from Hosea 6:6 and emphasizes the importance of compassion over ritualistic religious practices. Jesus criticizes the Pharisees for their legalistic approach to the Sabbath, which prioritizes strict adherence to rules over the well-being and mercy towards others. By invoking this scripture, Jesus underscores that God values love, kindness, and mercy above ceremonial compliance.

By stating, "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath," Jesus claims authority over the Sabbath, a day that was central to Jewish law and identity. This declaration is significant because it redefines the understanding of the Sabbath, not as a burdensome obligation, but as a gift meant to serve humanity's needs. Jesus is positioning Himself as the ultimate interpreter and sovereign over the Sabbath, indicating His divine prerogative to determine how it should be observed.

Overall, Matthew 12:6-8 challenges religious legalism and highlights the supremacy of Jesus’ mission of mercy and compassion, redefining traditional understandings of religious practice and authority. Amen.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

**Sacrifice Not Mercy desired**

In sacred whispers of the past,

A greater truth, now stands steadfast.

For here, within this humble frame,

A presence speaks a holy name.

"The temple grand, with walls so high,

Cannot contain the boundless sky.

For one is here, much greater still,

Whose love and grace the heart can fill."

"Mercy, not sacrifice," He pleads,

"Is what the weary spirit needs.

To know compassion, pure and deep,

Is to awaken from troubled sleep."

So let our hearts, in reverence, bow,

Not to the law, but to love's vow.

For in each act of kindness shown,

We touch the sacred, we are known.

With eyes that see beyond the veil,

Where justice and compassion eternally hail,

May we, like Him, our lives bestow,

In mercy's light, let goodness grow. Amen.
