The Gospel of Luke Chapter 10 Verses 38 thru 42

38 As they continued their journey he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. 39 She had a sister named Mary [who] sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. 40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me. 41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. 42 There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

In Luke 10:38-42, we find the poignant story of Mary and Martha, two sisters who welcomed Jesus into their home. While Martha busied herself with preparations, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to His teaching. When Martha complained that Mary should help her, Jesus lovingly responded, saying, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42, NIV).

My brothers in blue, this story speaks directly to our lives today. We often find ourselves distracted by the noise and chaos around us, just as Martha was consumed by her tasks. In a world that can tempt us towards dishonor and wrongdoing, Jesus calls us to focus on what truly matters—our relationship with Him and the love we show to others.

Choosing the better part is about prioritizing our journey in Christ. It’s about sitting at His feet, absorbing His wisdom, and allowing His words to guide our actions. Just as Mary chose to embrace this path, you too can make the decision to step away from a life of crime and mischief, and instead, choose a life rooted in honor, love, and respect for yourself and those around you.

Today, as you face the challenges of prison life, remember that each moment offers a choice. We can choose to deepen our relationship with Christ, to listen to His teachings, and to live them out in our interactions with fellow inmates. Embrace the better part—seek honor and love in your actions, and you will find true fulfillment that cannot be taken from you. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

07-20-2025 Luke 10 v3842

**Mary Has Chosen the Better Part**

In a humble home, two sisters tread,

Martha bustles, her worries widespread,

Preparing a feast, with tasks to fulfill,

While Mary sits still, in peace, at His will.

"Lord, do you see? My sister’s in there,

Leaving me lonely, with burdens to bear."

Martha's heart frets, her mind in a race,

But Jesus brings calm with His gentle grace.

“Martha, dear Martha, you’re anxious and torn,

Only one thing matters, amid all you’ve worn.

Mary’s chosen the path that brings life’s sweetest part,

To listen, to learn—this is wisdom of heart.”

So in choices we make, let our hearts be aligned,

With His words of love, our purpose defined.

In stillness and honor, we find our true place,

Choosing Christ over worry, in His everlasting grace. Amen.
