The Gospel of Matthew 6 Verses 18 thru 22
18 When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side. 19 A scribe approached and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” 21 Another of [his] disciples said to him, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus answered him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”
In Matthew 6:18-22, Jesus teaches profound lessons about priorities and spiritual focus. He emphasizes the importance of storing treasures in heaven rather than accumulating earthly treasures, which are ultimately fleeting. The passage invites believers to reflect on where their true allegiance lies—in temporal, material pursuits or in eternal values. Jesus encourages us to live with the understanding that our hearts follow our treasures; thus, where we place our focus reveals the true state of our spiritual condition.
The phrase "Follow Me, Let the dead bury the dead" comes from another significant moment in the Gospel, specifically in Luke 9:60, where Jesus responds to a potential disciple who wishes to delay following Him to bury his father. The statement underscores the radical commitment required to be a disciple of Christ. Jesus is not dismissing the importance of family duties; rather, He highlights the urgency and depth of priority in following Him. In this context, Jesus emphasizes that spiritual life takes precedence over societal norms and obligations.
By saying "Let the dead bury the dead," Jesus contrasts the spiritually alive with the spiritually dead. The urgent call to discipleship demands immediate action and undivided loyalty. Following Him means putting aside distractions, including societal expectations that may hinder one’s spiritual journey. The call to discipleship is a call to a transformative life dedicated to spreading God’s love and truth, as we prioritize our spiritual journey over worldly concerns.
Ultimately, this message serves as a powerful reminder for believers to re-evaluate their life's priorities, consistently choosing to invest in what has eternal significance. Through His teachings, Jesus invites us into a living faith that transcends the temporal, urging us to align our lives with His divine purpose. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Let the Dead Bury the Dead**
In secret shadows, let your heart reside,
Where treasures kept from earthly eyes abide.
Not in the rust, nor in the moth's sweet snare,
For Heaven’s wealth is found in faithful care.
Store up your riches where the spirit soars,
In love, in grace, beyond this world's closed doors.
The heart reflects what we hold dear each day,
In every thought, in every way we pray.
The lamp of the body, let it shine so bright,
With pure intentions guiding us toward light.
When eyes behold what truly leads us home,
In Him, our hearts no longer need to roam.
For seeking first His kingdom's boundless reign,
Transforms our lives, dispelling all the pain.
With every step we take in faith's embrace,
Investing in the treasures of His eternal grace.
Oh, let the dead bury the duties of old,
For life is found in stories yet untold.
To follow Him means to forsake the past,
Embracing love that’s deep, abiding, vast.
In every heartbeat, let His purpose gleam,
As we align ourselves with Heaven’s dream.
No earthly wealth can ever take His place;
Eternal treasures shine through His embrace. Amen.
