The Gospel of Matthew 5 Verses 27 thru 32

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna. 31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”

In Matthew 5:27-32, Jesus deepens the understanding of the commandment against adultery by addressing the inner life of desire. He teaches that lustful thoughts are just as significant as the act of infidelity itself, emphasizing the need to guard our hearts and minds against destructive impulses. This passage serves as a compelling reminder to honor the sacred covenant of marriage, highlighting that purity begins within.

Lust, often portrayed as a momentary indulgence, can lead to grave consequences—fractured marriages, broken trust, and emotional turmoil. To circumvent such temptations, it’s crucial to cultivate a spirit of appreciation for the beauty of one’s own spouse. Instead of allowing our eyes and hearts to wander, we are called to celebrate the unique qualities that drew us to our partners in the first place. By focusing on the love we share and the commitment we’ve made, we create a protective barrier against the allure of fleeting desires.

Every relationship has its ups and downs, but prioritizing honor and admiration for our spouses—even in mundane moments—can reignite the flames of passion and intimacy. Take a moment to reflect on their strengths and the memories that bind you together. Engage in conversation that nurtures connection, express gratitude for the little things, and remember why you chose each other.

In doing so, we fulfill not only the letter of the law but also its spirit. We transform our hearts and lives, creating a sanctuary for love that withstands the trials of temptation. May we strive each day to cherish, honor, and uplift our spouses, turning our focus away from lust to a deeper appreciation of the bond we share. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Cherish Your Partner**

In sacred words, the truth is laid,

A call to hearts, both gentle and unafraid,

"Adultery begins in the gaze," He said,

To guard our desires, let passion be fed.

When lust may whisper, tempting the soul,

Turn eyes to your loved one, make their heart whole.

In each small moment, let admiration unfold,

In honor and beauty, let love be retold.

Remember the vows, the promise made clear,

In laughter and trials, together we steer.

With every glance, let respect reappear,

For the heart that is loyal, finds joy sincere.

Reject the allure of what's fleeting and vain,

Embrace the true love that will always remain.

In devotion and grace, let gratitude reign,

With each shared heartbeat, together endure pain.

So cherish your partner, O Tonita I see beauty anew,

A treasure, a gift, that was given to you.

In the light of His teaching, in love's gentle hue,

Let honor guide us, in all that we do. Amen.
