The Book of Daniel Chapter 5 Verse 13 thru 18

13 Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and sent for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were promptly brought before the king. 14 King Nebuchadnezzar questioned them: “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you will not serve my god, or worship the golden statue that I set up? 15 Now, if you are ready to fall down and worship the statue I made, whenever you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, zither, dulcimer, harp, double-flute, and all the other musical instruments, then all will be well; if not, you shall be instantly cast into the white-hot furnace; and who is the God who can deliver you out of my hands?” 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, “There is no need for us to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If our God, whom we serve, can save us from the white-hot furnace and from your hands, O king, may he save us! 18 But even if he will not, you should know, O king, that we will not serve your god or worship the golden statue which you set up.”

In Daniel 5:13-18, we encounter a pivotal moment in the life of King Nebuchadnezzar, who is trembling at the sight of the mysterious writing on the wall. The queen recalls Daniel, the servant of the Most High God, known for his wisdom and ability to interpret dreams. When summoned, Daniel stands before the king, unwavering in his faith, ready to confront the arrogance of Nebuchadnezzar idolatry.

This passage serves as a poignant reminder of the necessity to deny the myriad of so-called gods that the world offers. Nebuchadnezzar had exalted himself and worshipped the false gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, ignoring the sovereignty of the one true God whom Daniel serves. In doing so, he brought upon himself a profound judgment, illustrating the futility of placing trust in anything other than the God of Israel, the same God who safeguarded Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace.

As believers, we are called to surrender completely to the Lord, just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image. They exemplified unwavering faith, declaring that their God could deliver them. In today's society, we face similar temptations to idolize wealth, power, and status, which can distract us from the true source of strength and salvation.

Daniel's boldness encourages us to stand firm in our convictions and to share the truth of God's sovereignty over all other claims. Let us reflect on our own lives and the 'gods' we may unknowingly serve. With complete surrender to the one and only true God, we can confidently proclaim His glory and righteousness as we navigate a world fraught with distractions. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **We will NOT Serve Your god or Worship a Golden Statue**

In the palace with shadows deep,

A feast of riches, secrets to keep.

Nebuchadnezzar revels, pride on display,

Yet unseen writing darkens the day.

The king in his jest, with laughter so bold,

Takes sacred vessels, a story retold.

From temple to table, what folly is this?

A fateful decision that peace would dismiss.

Then tremors of fear, as the finger appears,

A message of doom that brings forth his fears.

Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin, the claim,

A verdict from heaven, proclaiming his name.

Summoned forth Daniel, the sage of the past,

With wisdom bestowed, his insight amassed.

“Nebuchadnezzar, hear—your reign’s coming to close,

The days of your kingdom, the Lord now exposes.”

In vanity’s grip, you’ve wandered astray,

Defied the Most High, in your brazen display.

Your time has been numbered, the scale weighs you down,

Your kingdom divided; a fate of a clown.

So heed this decree, O hearts in your pride,

The might of the heavens cannot be defied.

For every great power shall bow to the call,

And learn from the writing inscribed on the wall. Amen.
