The Gospel of Luke Chapter 12 Verse 13 thru 21

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” 14 He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” 15 Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” 16 Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. 17 He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ 18 And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods 19 and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ 21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”

In Luke 12:13-21, we encounter a profound parable that centers on the dangers of greed and the fleeting nature of earthly wealth. A man approaches Jesus, demanding that He arbitrate an inheritance dispute. Rather than delve into the specifics of the family squabble, Jesus shifts the focus to a teaching about the heart. He warns against the desire for material possessions, proclaiming, "Beware! Guard against every type of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own."

This passage introduces the parable of the rich fool, who accumulates wealth and plans for a comfortable future, only to hear God declare, "Fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you." The rich man’s folly lies in his misguided trust in material riches rather than in God—the source of eternal treasure.

What resonates through this scripture is the reminder of what truly matters to God. Earthly treasures are temporary and often deceptive. While humanity may chase after riches and status, God calls us to build treasures in heaven—those acts of love, kindness, and generosity. In God’s kingdom, it is not the abundance of possessions that defines our worth but the condition of our hearts. Story of a dad and his little girl in a Subway.

As followers of Christ, we are invited to prioritize the eternal—investing in relationships, acts of service, and spiritual growth. These are the treasures that do not perish, that enrich our lives and the lives of others in profound ways.

In essence, Luke 12:13-21 teaches us about the importance of aligning our values with God's. The treasure we seek must not be confined to earthly pursuits; rather, it ought to reflect the heart of God’s kingdom. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Ephesians 6:17-20

10-20-2025 Luke 12 v1321

**You Fool This Night Your Life Will Be Demanded of You**

In the crowd a voice did rise,

"Teacher, hear my plea," he cries,

"Divide the wealth that we possess,

So greed may grant our hearts success."

But Jesus turned with knowing gaze,

A warning wrapped in wisdom’s phrase,

"Beware the greed that blinds the soul,

For life is more than fleeting gold."

He told a tale of fields so vast,

A farmer’s yield, a fortune amassed.

Yet in his heart, no thought of grace,

Just barns to build, no God to face.

"Tonight," the voice of Heaven spoke,

"Your life will end, your dreams will choke.

What good is wealth when death draws near?

Your treasures lost, your soul laid in fear."

So gather not what rust can claim,

Nor bank on fortune’s fleeting fame.

For those who hoard will find no rest,

In selfishness they’ll be distressed.

But seek the treasures that abides,

In kindness, love, and those besides.

For in the light of a generous hand,

True riches bloom in a loving land. Amen.
