The Gospel of Luke 7 v- 31 thru 35

31 “Then to what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ 35 But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”

Today Luke presents a vivid illustration of contrasting responses to Jesus’ ministry and the prophetic tradition. In this passage, Jesus addresses the people regarding the nature of their reactions to His message and that of John the Baptist. He begins by likening the current generation to children sitting in the marketplace, who call out to one another, complaining that neither John nor Himself meets their expectations.

John the Baptist, who lived a penitent lifestyle, was criticized for not eating bread or drinking wine. In contrast, Jesus, who partook in meals and social gatherings, was labeled a glutton and a drunkard. This comparison highlights the fickleness of public opinion and the tendency of individuals to misinterpret or dismiss the truth based on personal biases or societal norms.

Jesus concludes this reflection with the powerful statement, “But wisdom is justified by all her children.” This suggests that true wisdom is ultimately demonstrated through the outcomes and fruits of one’s actions. It implies that while people may reject or misunderstand the messengers of God, the transformative impact of their ministries will bear witness to their authenticity and divine purpose.

This passage invites readers to reflect on their own responses to divine messages and messengers. It challenges us to examine whether we are open to the variety of ways God may choose to speak to us, or if we are caught in rigid expectations. The call to embrace wisdom, regardless of its form, resonates through the ages, reminding us that the essence of faith often transcends our preconceived notions and societal expectations. Ultimately, it challenges believers to seek genuine understanding and connection with the divine, rather than getting caught up in the judgments of others. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

**Wisdom Vindicates Her Children**

In the marketplace, children play,

Voices rise in complete disarray,

“John's too strict, he does not dine,

But Jesus feasts, and people malign.”

A prophet’s call, a savior’s grace,

Yet judgment reigns in every place,

With glutton's name and wine’s embrace,

They twist the truth, they miss His grace.

“Wisdom cries,” the Savior speaks,

“Her children’s paths are what she seeks,

For in the echoes of their song,

Is where the heart of truth truly belongs.”

Oh fickle hearts, so quick to judge,

In shadows dark, they hold a grudge,

How often do we turn away,

From grace that comes in bright array?

In every feast, in every fast,

The Spirit moves, the die is cast,

Yet wisdom waits, with arms outspread,

To guide the lost, to raise the dead.

So let us listen, let us see,

Beyond our walls, to what can be,

For in the laughter, in the tears,

God’s love is found, dispelling fears.

In every choice, in every stand,

May we embrace, with open hand,

The varied ways that love can flow,

In wisdom’s light, may we all learn to grow. Amen.
